Devotional Thought - Rocks

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Faithe Thomas One of the benefits of living in a coastal country in Africa is that the beach is not far away. I have always found the sound of the ocean to have a calming effect when I am in a stressful situation. And after this particular week, I needed the calming effect! I had wondered all week if I was really where God wanted to me be and if He could use me here. While sitting on the beach, I leaned back and my hand hit a rock. I picked it up and saw that it could have been a good skipping stone except the edges were not rounded. They were jagged and rough. It would take years of tides to smooth the edges of this stone. I realized that I was a lot like that rock. I have a lot of jagged edges, too. Leaning back on the other arm, my hand hit another rock. The similarity between the two amazed me. They could have been from the same quarry. But this second stone was smaller and smoother perfect for a skipping stone. I sensed Gods message: Yes, it takes time and work, but I too can be a useful vessel for Him. I have to be patient as God sends circumstances into my life that smooth out my rough edges. Perhaps the difficulties of this week were part of the smoothing process in my life. I still have those rocks. They sit on my bookshelf to encourage me to continue to be willing to be changed. They serve as a reminder that all of us are the work of Gods hand. (Isaiah 64:8) —- Faithe Finley Thomas lived as a missionary in Ghana, West Africa for six years. New and Used Car Loans - How to Find the Best Financing

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder There are a lot of financial institutions that are eager to lend money to car buyers, thus you have several options available. Securing the best finance package on your next auto loan requires some effort on your part. Several factors contribute to the type of financing you receive. Here are some tips that will improve your chances of getting the best financing. Fix Credit Problems Before Obtaining a New or Used Car Loan Although financial institutions are willing and ready to lend money for auto loans, they are a little reluctant to lend money to high risk applications. High risk applicants consist of individuals with major credit problems. Skipping several payments to creditors and paying bills late have a negative effect on your credit report. Lenders have to be confident in your ability to repay loans. You are able to obtain an auto loan with bad credit, but expect to pay a higher percentage. To receive a good finance package, resolve credit issues and establish a good payment history with current creditors. Finance Auto Loan with a Past or Present Creditor Financing your new car with an existing lender is ideal because you have already established a relationship. Lenders are eager to maintain relationships with past and current creditors. Moreover, if you had a good payment history and maintained a good credit standing with a past lender, they may negotiate a low interest rate and terms. Purchase a New Car with a Down Payment Having a down payment is another way to negotiate a great financing package. Down payments can be as little as $1000. However, if you are hoping to snag an advertised low interest rate, and you prefer a low monthly payment, having a down payment of at least 20% is recommended. Compare Auto Loan Lenders While some car buyers obtain dealer financing without shopping around, savvy car buyers hoping to get the best financing package should compare rates and fees from at least three lenders. Getting a loan through an auto loan broker is your best alternative. Instead of submitting a quote request to several individual lenders, request a quote through a broker. Brokers work with various lenders. After reviewing your information, the broker will email you with multiple offers from different lenders. They do all the work. Your job involves reviewing the quotes, and picking the lender that offers the best financing. Here are our Recommended [http://www.abcloanguide.com/autoloans.shtml]Auto Finance Companies Online. High Tech Fishing Reels Offer Quality Casts

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By Mike Singh When it comes to fishing reels, there are an abundance of options to choose from. Depending on the type of fishing you will be doing will determine what type of reel you will need in order to be successful. Aside from fly-fishing, reels have made many big changes when it comes to materials and function. Reels of today use finely crafted precision parts and this allows for precise and fluid movement. Many of the new fishing reels of today are build from anodized rust free materials and they are durable and well constructed tools. There are countless brands on the market today, when it comes to fishing reels. With the likes of Zebco, Diawa, and Abu Garcia on the roster, one can be sure that there will never be a shortage of options. Many of the great fishing reels that you can buy today, even come in accompaniment with a great rod generally of the same brand. This is where you buy a package and the entire setup is ready to go, all you need to do is thread your line spool with fishing line. There are a few choices on the market today when it comes to fishing reels; aside from a fly-fishing reel there is a spin caster and a bait caster reel. The spin caster reel is designed to pull a small tab, or wire frame back prior to casting. Once you have cast your line, as soon as you touch the handle from the reel assembly it will lock and give you the tension that you need to continue your reel in motion. These fishing reels are very popular, and anglers use these reels for a variety of species of fish. The spool on these fishing reels are of the open concept design and make for a rather easy affair should your line get tangled. These reels also make it easy to load the spool with line, considering these fishing reels have no encasement to shroud the spool itself. Bait casting fishing reels is basically of the same thought process however; the spool for the line is encased and is not visible. While the case does come off for easy line spooling, it can be rather cumbersome should you not be familiar with these types of fishing reels. There is merely one small button to be pushed while you are preparing to cast your line, making the bait casting fishing reels relatively easy to use. Once the cast has been made, the same process as the spin casting fishing reels apply. The line will lock once the handle for the reel in process is engaged. More often than not you will find this type of reel used by the big bass tournament pros, as it is a relatively quick fishing reel to use and it gets the line in the water quickly. Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Michael Douglas What do you do when that little, green eyed monster, as it’s so often called, jealousy bites you? It can happen to the best of couples, no matter what stage your relationship is in. Sometimes, it feels like there is no defense against this ridge building phenomenon. Most people are not jealous by nature but jealousy is usually put into action by some event, situation or another person. If you are insecure about your relationship and very dependent on your lover you are likely to be jealous. But is there any way to conquer this feeling and overcome jealousy? Here are some ways you can handle jealousy Isolate the cause of jealousy. You may think that jealousy is caused by your partner looking sexy or by a certain person at work. But that isn’t the real cause. That is just a symptom. Try to understand what the real cause is, so that you can then work on finding a solution.Focus on eliminating one jealousy trigger. You also need to realise that jealousy can be overcome easily. Online Dating - Meeting A Woman For The First Time

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Timothy Mahar You started online dating to meet a woman. Now it is time to meet your online match for the first time. Meeting her in a comfortable environment is your best strategy for transitioning to a relationship in the real world. Meet As Friends When it comes time to meet your online match in person, meet as friends. Dont go to your first meeting with the idea in your mind that she is The One or might be The One. That puts way too much pressure on your first meeting. Meet At An Agreed Place When your match has decided that she is ready to meet you, let her pick the place to meet. This allows her to choose a place where she will feel comfortable. She may ask for some guidance and making a few suggestions is fine. You might also want to give her a few no-go places if you dont enjoy a particular type of food, but you should try to be flexible. Unless one of you is driving a long distance, I would try to make the meeting fairly short. Meeting for lunch, coffee or dessert all work well since none implies huge expectations. Dress Casual I would suggest you discuss with your match dressing casual for your first meeting. I think that helps everyone to keep their expectations in check and promotes a friendly, comfortable environment to explore the possibilities for romance. Your focus should be on one another, not the clothes that you each are wearing. Have Fun When you finally meet your match, relax, be yourself and have a good time. You will look your best with a smile on your face. Send An E-Mail After Your First Meeting If you had a successful first meeting, before you go to bed, send her a short e-mail saying that you enjoyed meeting her in person. It is a nice way to let her know that you are interested and it is the best way to help move the relationship forward. Transitioning To A Real World Relationship Meeting your match for the first time is a big step in transitioning you from an online/phone relationship to one in the real world. It still may be awhile before your match feels comfortable enough to give you her phone number so that you can call or her address so you can pick her up for a date. That will come with time, try to be patient and understanding. Patience might get you somewhere, impatience wont get you anywhere. Timothy Mahar runs the website RomanceForEveryone.com which includes both online dating tips for men and online dating tips for women. 15 Tips For Making A Container Water Garden

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Lee Dobbins Potted plants, theyre common. But when container water gardens are mentioned, chances are, not too many people will be able to answer what it is. Do you know what they are for? No? Youll know in a minute. Before, most people who would want to enjoy the beauty of water garden plants would need to set up a pond in their homes. Today, that is just an alternative. Container water gardens are for water plants as pots are for flowering plants. 1. Just like planting the usual garden plants, water plants such as water hyacinth or water lettuce should be packed with clay while submerged in water. 2-3 potted plants together with some plants with broad leaves would be attractive enough. 2. Container water gardens should be kept in places with a high distribution of sunlight (at least 6 hours in a day) and ample supply of water. The containers should be refilled as soon as some of the original content has evaporated. During the afternoon, though, a bit of protection is required for your containers. 3. You must never worry about mosquitoes that might make a lair out of your creation. The water in the container would not become stagnant because of the plants in it. In rare cases where mosquito larvae do develop, take them off immediately and put in fresh water right away. 4. There is no need to go to certain shops just to start your own container water garden. Any type of container that could hold ample amounts of water would do to jumpstart a cute little garden. A small container that can hold a gallon of water (think in terms of old bath tubs!) can hold just one type of water plant. So, you can do the math. The more plants or bigger plants you use, the larger your container should be. 5. To save space, shallow containers could be used for floating plants. If you are opting to add fishes or a water pump to your container, then at least 12 inches is needed to submerge all these. 6. When you are still under the process of selecting the plants for your future water garden, be sure to consider the size of the plants and the available space that you have. For spacious places, bigger plants are required. It would be awful to find a small container in a large space. 7. Anacharis help keep the water clear so be sure to add about 2-3 bunches in 10-15 gallons of water. 8. The great thing about container water gardens, aside from beautifying porches or decks, is that it is emotionally rewarding. This type of garden is easy to maintain since one only needs to trim and fertilize the plants and just replace the water that has evaporated. 9. Remember this, and remember it well! Be sure to take your containers inside your home when the winter season begins. You wouldnt want your water plants to freeze, would you? 10. Be sure of where you want the container to be permanently placed. Remember, water is quite heavy and once it is inside the containers together with your water plants, having to move them from one place to another could be taxing. 11. If you are bent on having a pond anytime soon, then container water gardening is a small-scale counterpart of your future pond. You could start practicing in keeping a larger garden by keeping the smaller one first. 12. Other possible containers that can be used which are easily produced are whiskey barrels, kiddie pools or even horse watering troughs. Just a little imagination and these old items can be turned into something elegant. 13. Place bricks underneath your plants to adjust their height. 14. It is highly advised to use black or any dark colored containers as they discourage the growth of algae and they give the impression of depth. 15. Around 50-60 percent of the water surface should be covered with your chosen water plants. And make sure to let the water stand for about 1-2 days before putting the plants so that any trace of chlorine has already settled by then. These are just a handful of tips in starting a container water garden. With less effort but boundless rewards, this is the perfect new endeavor for anyone. Children and Seat Belts

Friday, September 21st, 2007

By Kim Prissel Would you push your child out in front of an oncoming car? No? Then why would you allow your child to ride in your car without their seatbelt on? Either way, the impact could be deadly. If your reasoning is you are only going to the store, or just dropping them off at school, think again. Most accidents happen within 25 miles of home. A collision at thirty miles per hour is equal to jumping off a three-story building. Over 600 unrestrained children under the age of 5 are killed every year and 80,000 are injured as passengers in car wrecks. Seat belts could have prevented over 50% of these injuries and fatalities. Research shows that when adults buckle up, 87% of children buckle up too. Parents and children are spending more time in vehicles than in the past, so why not buckle up and be safe? Buckle up, set a good example, and ensure your children are restrained. Children under the age of 5 should be in child restraint seats and children under the age of 13 should always ride in the back seat. From birth to 20 lbs, babies should be in rear-facing car seats, which are reclined 45 degrees. From 1 to 4 years, children should be in forward facing cars seats. Until children are 8 or 57 tall, they should be in boosters with lap and shoulder belts. Be sure your car seats are also installed properly. If you are unsure, check with your local police department or with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a local inspection station. There is no valid excuse not to use your seat belts. Buckle up, buckle your children up and be safe. Kim Prissel is an author on http://www.Writing.Com/ which is a site for Creative Writers. Memory Loss Linked to Overweight

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

By Gabe Mirkin, M.D. How could excess weight cause memory loss? Full fat cells produce proteins called cytokines that turn on your immunity to cause inflammation that damages tissue throughout your body, including your brain. Researchers at Toulouse University Hospital in France tested people first in 1996 and again five years later. During that period, overweight people lost far more of their ability to recall words than their thinner counterparts. (Neurology, October 2006). Your immunity is supposed to protect you from infections. When a germ gets into your body, your immunity produces white blood cells and proteins called antibodies that attach to and kill germs. As soon as the germ is gone, your immunity is supposed to stop making antibodies and white blood cells. In some people the immunity remains active and attacks a persons own body to cause heart attacks, strokes, certain cancers, and even diabetes. This recent study shows that it may even attack your nerves and brain. Being overweight can cost you IQ points, and the most effective way to prevent obesity is to exercise regularly. How much do you need to exercise to lose weight? In one recent study, researchers asked people to walk and count an extra 2000 steps each day (Journal of Human Nutrition & Dietetics, August 2006). This is really a minimal amount of exercise. They also kept complete food diaries. They lost weight and did not increase their food intake. When you start an exercise program, your appetite may increase, but this will not increase your caloric intake to equal the extra calories that you burn. For example, if you burn 600 calories with added exercise, you may take in 200 calories extra and you will lose weight. Exercise helps you lose weight by raising your metabolism so you burn more calories for several hours after you finish exercising. However, only vigorous exercise that increases body temperature and makes you sweat will increase your metabolism enough to continue burning more calories after you finish. Overweight is a major cause of premature death and increases risk for heart attacks, strokes, cancers and arthritis. If you are out of shape and want to lose weight, get a stress cardiogram and ask your doctor to clear you for an exercise program. Start slowly and then gradually increase the intensity of your exercise over several months. The Light of Advent Dawns in Our Hearts

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

By Jackie O’Neal Your light will come, Jerusalem; The Lord will shine on you in radiant beauty. (Responsory Christian Prayer) We are during Advent waiting in silent and joyful expectation for the Light to be revealed within ourselves. Although we wait, the Light is already here present and will be always. Nature during this sacred time brings us signs of the presence of the Light dawning in our hearts. As we gaze out our windows upon the white, glistening snow newly fallen, we are reminded of the purity of Christ and the beauty of Mary our Blessed Mother. The chilly winter air that blows speaks to us of the comfort the Holy Spirit gives us especially in times of affliction or family problems which will undoubtedly make themselves known during the hectic holiday season. The frozen ground below us is redolent of those who are separated from God through unbelief and we must pray for daily so their hearts may melt with Gods love and grace. The tree branches encased in glittering ice help us recall how our lives must be encased in holiness and as we long for Spring and a warmer climate, our thoughts embrace the Resurrection and a God who rose from the dead to start His Church. A God who rose from the dead to increase our faith. A God for which literally nothing is impossible. True light, shining on mankind, come and dispel our darkness. And He does every day. Look out your window, behold the ice, the bright, white snow, feel the chilly wind and let your eyes be riveted to the evergreen branches embraced by frost- all these are signs of His presence shared with us by nature and by the God who created all things. Gods love and mercy are so great and His imagination so vast, so eternal- it is possible to meet Him in the every day, in the mundane, if we are open. -Jackie ONeal Jackie O’Neal is a nominee for the Episcopal Priesthood. Should I Consolidate My School Loans?

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Richmond_Monillo]Richmond Monillo Are you the one who just don’t have one or two but more school loans? Are you tired of having so many papers to handle and sign? Then consolidate your loans and you will see that fees and loans are not that much hard to organize and solve. Single loan, single lender and sole payment. Once you consolidate, you will have no longer to keep dealing with multiple loans or lenders. Monthly payments are lowered. With loan consolidations it is not only you lower your monthly payments but you also extend your repayment term. Chances to benefit some programs. There are some privilege programs that are supported by loan consolidations such as receiving a decrease in your chief balance or with your interest rates. Sole permanent interest rate. Since you have gathered together all your loans, you will only have sole and permanent interest rate to be carried to you that is based commonly on the weighted average of your current loans. Best Reasons to Consolidate Student Loans After all this time, if you are still on the verge of thinking twice and confusions, then let us lay to you the top reasons why you must pick consolidation for federal student loans. Below are the lists. Reduce your monthly payments. Once you begin your consolidation, the most counting effect on your student loans will be on your monthly payments. They will be reduced or lowered since you have combined them into one loan. Now there will only be single monthly payments. Experience lower rates on your loans for life. After consolidating, you won’t have more worries with your many college loans which have before. This time, interest rate will only vary on the loans which you have combined. But if you compare your interest with the interests you were getting on all your loans before consolidation, it is very reasonable this time. Make one loan payment a month. Like mentioned above, since you have consolidated all your loans, you will only be receiving single monthly payment for all loans. This is where the advantage of loan management is very helpful since all these loans will be more manageable after taken as one. Match repayment plan and term with your financial standing. This one good benefit is very useful in times when loaners don’t have a good financial status. Consolidation is matched to your capabilities before your plans for loan refinancing and as well, with your terms or period. Easy application. We have a customized and easy application for loan consolidation that is designed to provide a convenient environment for loaners. With these set of things to acquire, it is certainly a good decision to get your own direct loans consolidation. You really can make significant decrease with your burdens on monthly payments. And likewise, extend your repayment terms as based on the amount of your education debts. And when you get smaller payment, you can have more cash to avail other expenses especially with your necessities. So why don’t consolidate you student loans now.
